Opening a barber in Scarborough, WA: Market & Competitor Analysis (2026)

Ten barbers currently trade in Scarborough. That's a high headline count for a suburb of 17,552 people, but effective density — which adjusts for quality and review strength — sits at just 29 out of 100, meaning the real competitive squeeze is lighter than the raw number suggests, with room below the top tier.

Yes, on balance. Scarborough carries a Strategique Score of 51 out of 100, rated "Strong," and a Market Opportunity score of 72 out of 100, driven by household incomes of $2,108 a week and unemployment under 4 per cent. Competitor strength sits at 48 out of 100 — solid, not soft, so entry still needs a clear angle.

Competitor strength averages 48 out of 100 — a mixed field, not a dominant one. Scarbra Barbra Scarborough leads on rating at 4.8 stars from 208 reviews, Jack Of All Fades leads on volume with 352 reviews at 4.5 stars, and Scarborough Barber Shop holds 4.6 stars from 166 reviews. These three set the benchmark new entrants must clear.

A weekly household income of $2,108 against a population of 17,552 points to a customer base that can support pricing above budget haircut rates. Unemployment of 3.6 per cent keeps disposable income steady, favouring regular rebooking over one-off visits. Pricing should reflect that spending capacity rather than competing on being the cheapest option nearby.

Start by auditing the three review leaders — Scarbra Barbra, Jack Of All Fades and Scarborough Barber Shop — to find the service gap they don't cover, such as late-night slots or a niche clientele. Referenced figures: $2,108 (not independently validated here). Treat this pricing or positioning recommendation as a hypothesis to test, not proof of premium pricing, profit, margins or guaranteed market share. Household income is context, not actual customer spending or willingness to pay.
